The vice-presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has called on the Federal Government and state administrations to intensify efforts to address insecurity and banditry across Nigeria.

Kwankwaso made the appeal on Wednesday in Katsina while speaking to supporters during a condolence visit following the  death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar.

He described insecurity as one of the most pressing challenges confronting the nation and stressed the need for coordinated and decisive measures to restore peace and safety in affected communities.

According to him, governments at all levels must prioritise the fight against banditry and other forms of violent crime to safeguard lives and property.

The former Kano State governor also paid tribute to the late General Abubakar, describing him as a dedicated military officer who served the country with honour and commitment throughout his career.

He offered prayers for the repose of the deceased’s soul and asked God to grant his family the fortitude to cope with the loss.

Speaking on the party’s agenda, Kwankwaso said an NDC administration would focus on strengthening security, empowering young people and promoting good governance to improve the welfare of Nigerians.

He further noted that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and members of the Obedient Movement shared common aspirations with the Kwankwasiyya Movement in the pursuit of credible leadership and national progress.

During the visit, Kwankwaso also inaugurated the NDC’s new state secretariat in Katsina and urged party members to remain united and committed as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.

He called on supporters to deepen grassroots mobilisation efforts, saying the party’s vision was to create opportunities that would enable young Nigerians to achieve their ambitions in various professions and careers.

“Our goal is to build a better Nigeria where young people can fulfil their potential and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.

Earlier, the NDC Chairman and governorship candidate in Katsina State, Aliyu Ilu-Barde, expressed optimism about the party’s chances in future elections, maintaining that the NDC was well-positioned to record electoral success both in the state and across the country.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Katsina State, Alhaji Sule Amadi, urged members to remain steadfast and committed to the party’s objectives.

Similarly, the leader of the NDC movement in the state, Armayau Abdulkadir, assured supporters that the party would continue working towards securing victory in upcoming elections.
