Hunters and CWG security personnel have successfully foiled an attempted attack by armed bandits on Gidan Bawa village in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State on Tuesday night, August 18, 2026.
According to reports, the bandits, numbering about 40 and allegedly led by a notorious figure identified as Isiya Kwashen Garwa, invaded Gidan Bawa village in the Kandrawa area and abducted 45 residents, mostly women and children, with the intention of taking them into the forest.
However, hunters, CWG security personnel and members of the Civilian JTF stationed at Guga laid an ambush for the bandits as they attempted to leave the village.
During the ensuing gun battle, the security personnel reportedly killed seven of the bandits and rescued 34 of the abducted residents.
However, three of the victims lost their lives during the exchange of gunfire, while five others remain missing. It is suspected that some may have escaped during the confrontation, while others may have been taken away by the fleeing bandits.
During the operation, the security personnel also recovered 19 cattle and other items allegedly stolen by the bandits during their invasion of Gidan Bawa.
Security agencies are continuing their search for the missing residents and are pursuing the remaining bandits who fled the scene.
