Katsina Govt Clarifies Yankara Maulud Incident, Urges Calm

The Katsina State Government has clarified that the incident in Yankara, Faskari Local Government Area, was unrelated to Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda’s campaign rally, contrary to reports linking the two events on social media.

Preliminary information indicated that the incident arose from a disagreement between participants in a Maulud procession and security personnel over designated routes for the procession, resulting in confusion along a public street in Yankara.

The Government stressed that the incident had no connection with the Governor’s campaign activities or the Tinubu-Dikko campaign rally in Faskari.

Governor Radda passed through Yankara safely on his way to Faskari, where he first visited the District Head’s Palace and was received by the District Head alongside other traditional leaders.

The Governor subsequently proceeded to the Faskari Local Government Secretariat, where he inspected ongoing renovation works at the Secretariat and Council Chambers before attending the campaign rally and meeting residents and supporters.

The Government called on relevant security agencies to investigate the incident and establish the circumstances surrounding what happened.

It also urged media organisations, bloggers and social media users to verify information before publishing or sharing reports, particularly those capable of creating confusion and heightening tension.

The Government appealed to residents to remain calm, maintain peace and refrain from spreading unverified information.
