Multiple security sources have confirmed to Katsina Times that troops have successfully killed some top commanders of a notorious bandit leader operating in the Matazu area, identified as Muhammadu Fulani.
Those reportedly killed include Mamiyo and Naziru.
Sources said Mamiyo was one of Muhammadu Fulani's closest and most senior associates and was regarded as the second-in-command within his leadership structure. He was also said to represent the bandit leader during meetings, negotiations and other dealings involving the group.
Mamiyo was believed to be about 25 years old.
Naziru, according to the sources, was a teenager believed to be under 19 years old. Despite his young age, he was reportedly involved in leading armed attacks carried out by the group in various locations.
As of the time of filing this report, there had been no official statement from the Nigerian military confirming the development.
