President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed an amendment to the 2025 Appropriation Act, giving the Federal Government an additional three months to implement the budget.
The amendment extends the lifespan of the 2025 budget from September 30 to December 31, 2025, allowing Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to continue spending their approved allocations beyond the original deadline.
Presidential spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, announced the development in a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to Onanuga, the President assented to the Appropriation (Amendment) (No. 4) Bill, 2025, shortly after the National Assembly approved the legislation.
The Senate and House of Representatives had passed the amendment on Tuesday, paving the way for the President to sign it into law.
The extension is expected to give government agencies more time to complete ongoing capital projects and utilise funds already appropriated for various programmes.
The Presidency said the move would also help prevent disruptions to critical government projects and initiatives that could arise from the expiration of the original budget implementation period.
Tinubu commended the leadership and members of both chambers of the National Assembly for their prompt consideration of the amendment.
He described the passage and assent as another indication of cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government in pursuing national development.
With the new deadline, MDAs now have until December 31 to implement the 2025 budget under the amended law.
