NCDC Rules Out Ebola in Adamawa After Two Suspected Cases Test Negative

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has confirmed that two suspected Ebola cases reported in Yola, Adamawa State, tested negative following two rounds of laboratory investigations.

The agency disclosed this in a press statement issued on Saturday, 31 October 2026, following reports of individuals presenting symptoms suggestive of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD).

According to the NCDC, the Adamawa State Public Health Emergency Operations Centre (PHEOC) received the report in the early hours of Friday, 30 October, prompting immediate investigations in collaboration with the state government through the Ministry of Health and Human Services.

The two individuals were isolated, while appropriate public health measures were initiated. Samples were subsequently collected and sent for laboratory testing to determine the cause of their illness.

However, the NCDC said the samples tested negative for Ebola Virus Disease after two rounds of laboratory testing.

The agency clarified that there is currently no laboratory-confirmed Ebola case in Adamawa State, adding that the index case previously confirmed in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) remains the only confirmed case reported in Nigeria.

The Director-General of the NCDC, Dr Jide Idris, commended the Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and his team for their prompt response, assuring that the agency would continue to provide technical support to strengthen the state's disease surveillance and response operations.

He urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information or speculations about the situation, advising them to rely on official government and public health communication channels.

The NCDC also advised anyone experiencing symptoms such as fever, severe weakness, headache, muscle pain, vomiting, diarrhoea or unexplained bleeding, particularly following possible exposure, to seek immediate medical attention.

It further cautioned against self-medication, urging individuals to provide healthcare professionals with relevant information about their travel history and possible contact with infected persons.

The agency said it would continue to monitor the situation in collaboration with the Adamawa State Government and other relevant stakeholders, promising to provide further updates as verified information becomes available.
