A growing wave of resignations has swept through the administration of Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, with no fewer than five key political appointees stepping down from their positions within a matter of days, sparking intense political speculation across the state.

The sudden departures have triggered fresh discussions within political circles, especially as they come at a time when political alignments and behind-the-scenes maneuvering are gathering pace ahead of the 2027 general elections. While no official link has been established between the resignations and the ongoing political calculations within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), observers say the timing is difficult to ignore.

The latest official to leave office is Muhammad Shitu Maslaha, Deputy Commander of Operations at the Katsina State Hisbah Board. In a resignation letter dated October 6, 2026, Maslaha formally announced his exit, becoming the fifth prominent appointee to resign in recent days.

His departure came barely 24 hours after the resignation of the Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Aminu Usman, widely known as Abu Ammar, who stepped down on October 5. Before them, the Chairman of the Katsina State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Alhaji Kabir Bature Sarkin Alhazai, had also left office after serving since his appointment by Governor Radda in 2023.

Also among those who recently quit are Fadila Sani Dalhatu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Project Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation, and Alhaji Abubakar Soja Tsanni, who served as Special Adviser on Youth Development.

The development has fueled speculation that more exits could be on the horizon. Sources familiar with activities within Government House indicated that additional political appointees may tender their resignations in the coming days, although no official confirmation has been provided.

The recent departures add to earlier resignations recorded this year. In March, Commissioner for Environment Hamza Suleiman Faskari left the State Executive Council to pursue his political ambition ahead of the 2027 elections. Around the same period, Shehu Abdu Daura resigned as Special Assistant on Drugs, Narcotics and Human Trafficking to contest for the APC ticket for the Katsina North Senatorial District.

Despite the growing list of resignations, none of the former officials has publicly accused the government of wrongdoing or cited disagreements with Governor Radda as the reason for leaving office. Likewise, the state government has not suggested that the exits are connected or evidence of any internal crisis.

However, political analysts believe the developments may not be entirely disconnected from the evolving power dynamics within the Katsina APC. For months, reports of differing political interests among influential figures in the party have circulated, although leading stakeholders have consistently dismissed claims of a rift.

A party source alleged that some of the former appointees have recently become politically aligned with Ibrahim Kabir Masari, the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Political Affairs. According to the source, several of those who left government positions are now believed to be gravitating toward what some party insiders describe as the "Abuja-Katsina APC bloc."

There are also claims that the resignations may have been influenced by an alleged position attributed to Governor Radda, encouraging appointees who feel unable to contribute effectively or dissatisfied with their roles to voluntarily step aside. However, there is no independent confirmation that such a directive was issued or that it influenced any of the resignations.

Political commentator Ahmed Baba Kado believes the pattern of exits may point to deeper issues within the ruling party. According to him, while party leaders have publicly projected unity, recent developments suggest that political actors may be pursuing different interests behind the scenes.

He argued that the resignations and reports of shifting loyalties have heightened questions about cohesion within the APC in Katsina and could become a challenge for the party if unresolved before the next election cycle.

On the other hand, Dr. Bala Abdullahi, a lecturer at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, dismissed suggestions that the resignations automatically signal a political crisis. He noted that it is common for political appointees to resign for various reasons, including personal ambitions, strategic political calculations or dissatisfaction with their roles.

According to him, the true significance of the resignations will become clearer in the coming months, particularly if the former officials openly align themselves with rival political camps or emerging power blocs within the party.

The developments come shortly after a major boost for the APC in Katsina, marked by the return of former Secretary to the State Government, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, and several other political figures to the party during an event attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima.

With political activities intensifying ahead of the 2027 elections, attention is now focused on whether the recent resignations represent isolated decisions or the beginning of a broader political realignment that could reshape the landscape of Katsina politics in the months ahead.
