THE LAST MOMENT: MY FINAL GLIMPSE OF MARTYR AHMAD ZAKZAKY.

BY Muhammad Darazo.

After the Nigerian army had trapped us while shooting sporadically from both sides of Park Road in Zaria, during the 2014 International Quds Procession of 2014; Shahid Hamid instructed everyone to cross over to the other side, where there was a possible route. As everyone was crossing, the soldiers opened fire on some of us, hitting some few. Among those hit was Ali Hydar Zakzaky, who fell to the ground in the middle of the road. Shahid Hamid Zakzaky turned back to help them. It was at that very moment that the soldiers surrounded them.

Shahid Ahmad #Zakzaky turned around and witnessed what was happening. He saw Shahid Hamid standing there, surrounded by soldiers. Without hesitation, he turned back, determined to return to his brothers. But Shahid Mu'azu Ridwan grabbed him, pleading with him not to go back, insisting that the situation would only become worse.

At that moment, Shahid Ahmad Zakzaky uttered words that would forever remain etched in our hearts: "What do you expect me to tell Abba?". After extending some instructions to Shahid Mu'azu Ridwan, Shahid Ahmad turned around and headed back towards his brothers.

The last moment I saw him alive, from where we stood, having being in a different direction, I could only watch from a distance as Shahid Ahmad stood in the midst of the soldiers. I personally did not realize that it was him at the first glance because of the distance, until I was told by one of us who asked, "is that not Yaya Ahmad?"

Before we could reach him, they shot him. They threw his wounded body into a vehicle and sped away. Just like that, before our very eyes, the last glimpse of our beloved mentor  became a memory we would carry for the rest of our lives. He could have chosen to save himself. He could have kept running towards safety. But his heart would not allow him to abandon our brothers in their moment of greatest need.

His final moments were a testament to the depth of his love, the courage of his convictions, and the unbreakable bond of brotherhood that death itself could not erase. And in that final act of courage, his life and story became a powerful lasting symbol of legacy that will continue to inspire generations

May the memory of Martyr Ahmad Zakzaky live forever. May Allah elevate his status among the martyrs.
