FRSC Sector Commander Visits Emir of Katsina, Seeks Royal Support for Safer Roads

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Katsina State, Corps Commander Maxwell Kaltungo Lede, paid a courtesy and familiarization visit to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Dr. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman CFR, LLD, the Emir of Katsina and Chairman of the Katsina State Council of Chiefs, on Wednesday, 18th June, 2025.

The visit, held at the Emir’s Palace, was aimed at fostering stronger collaboration with traditional institutions, seeking royal blessings for efficient service delivery, and promoting road safety consciousness across the state.

During the visit, Commander Kaltungo expressed deep respect for the Emir and emphasized the important role traditional rulers play in influencing societal attitudes, especially in promoting responsible driving culture. He noted that engaging with the royal institution would significantly support the FRSC's mission in Katsina.

In his remarks, the Emir acknowledged the significant contributions of the FRSC to national security, particularly through initiatives such as the National Vehicle Identification Scheme and the National Driver’s Licence. He praised the Corps for its consistent efforts in safeguarding lives on Nigerian roads.

However, the royal father expressed concern over rising cases of moral decline in society, particularly among the youth. He decried the involvement of many young people in drug abuse and criminal activities, which he said are negatively affecting road safety. He cited reckless behaviour among commercial motorcyclists (Okada riders), tricycle operators, and some vehicle drivers, especially during odd hours of the day, as a major concern.

The Emir called for institutional measures to curb moral decay and instil positive values in society to ensure a safer and more secure transportation environment. He also pledged his full support to the FRSC in its operations across Katsina State.

His Royal Highness blessed the new Sector Commander, praying for his success and peaceful tenure. He also urged him to serve with diligence, integrity, commitment, and the fear of God.

The visit further strengthened the bond between the FRSC and traditional institutions in Katsina State and is expected to open new avenues for partnership in promoting road safety and public order.
