The Katsina State Police Command has foiled a bandit attack on Sabon Gulbi Village in Musawa Local Government Area, killing one suspected bandit and recovering an AK-47 rifle, ammunition and a motorcycle.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Saturday in Katsina.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on July 29 at about 5:00 p.m. when the police received a distress call that armed bandits had invaded Sabon Gulbi Village.
The statement said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Musawa immediately mobilised a joint tactical team comprising police operatives and personnel of the Katsina State Community Watch Corps (KSCWC) to the scene.
It stated that on arrival, the security team engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle and successfully repelled the assault.
The police said one suspected bandit was neutralised during the exchange of fire, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle, one magazine loaded with five rounds of live ammunition and an operational motorcycle.
The command said efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar Fage, commended the bravery and professionalism of the operatives as well as the effective collaboration between the police and the Katsina State Community Watch Corps.
He also praised members of the public for providing timely intelligence that aided the successful operation.
The police commissioner reassured residents of the command's commitment to protecting lives and property and urged them to remain vigilant and continue to report suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest security agency.
