President Bola Tinubu has directed INEC and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, free and fair governorship election in Osun State.

President Bola Tinubu has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure the protection of voters and electoral officials during Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
Fifteen candidates are contesting the August 15, 2026 election, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the PDP, APC candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and ADC candidate Najeem Salaam.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu urged voters to exercise their civic responsibility peacefully and avoid actions capable of disrupting the election.
He also directed the Inspector-General of Police and heads of other security agencies deployed for the election to provide maximum security at polling units and prevent troublemakers from interfering with the process.
The President said voters and electoral officials must be protected from intimidation and allowed to perform their civic duties without fear.
He further urged INEC to use the Osun election as an opportunity to demonstrate its preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
President Tinubu said the election must be credible and that its outcome should reflect the will of the people of Osun State.
