With the 2027 general elections drawing closer, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has begun laying the foundation for what it describes as an extensive grassroots mobilisation campaign in Katsina State, signaling the party’s determination to challenge for power at both the state and national levels.

The move was announced by the Katsina State Coordinator of the Atiku Abubakar 2027 Presidential Campaign, Surajo Aminu-Makera, during the inaugural meeting of local government campaign coordinators held at the Ahmad Babba Kaita Gubernatorial Campaign Office in Katsina.

The strategic gathering brought together representatives from all 34 local government areas of the state to deliberate on plans for expanding the party’s reach and building a strong campaign structure ahead of the next election cycle.

Addressing the coordinators, Aminu-Makera emphasized the importance of early grassroots engagement, urging party members to focus on mobilising support peacefully and within the framework of electoral laws.

He reminded campaign officials to conduct their activities responsibly and in compliance with regulations established by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as well as directives issued by security agencies.

According to him, discipline and adherence to due process will be critical to the credibility and success of the campaign.

Aminu-Makera expressed confidence in the party’s choice of candidates, stating that the ADC had positioned itself strongly for the 2027 contest by selecting former Vice President Atiku Abubakar as its presidential flag bearer and Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita as its governorship candidate in Katsina State.

He described both candidates as capable leaders who represent the party’s vision for the future.

“I remain confident that the ADC has made the best choice by electing Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as its presidential flag bearer and Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita as the gubernatorial candidate in Katsina State,” he said.

As part of efforts to establish a robust campaign network, the coordinator directed local government campaign leaders to immediately begin consultations with key stakeholders in their respective areas and complete the appointment of ward coordinators within the next ten days.

The ward coordinators, he explained, will serve as the next layer of the campaign structure and will subsequently oversee the selection of polling unit coordinators across the state.

The strategy is aimed at creating a well-organised grassroots machinery capable of reaching voters at the community level and strengthening the party’s presence in every ward and polling unit.

Aminu-Makera stressed that appointments should not be based on personal relationships or favoritism but on loyalty, dedication and proven commitment to the party’s objectives.

He urged coordinators to engage widely with party leaders and stakeholders before making their selections to ensure inclusiveness and unity within the campaign structure.

Beyond the presidential race, he disclosed that similar arrangements would soon be made for the campaigns of Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita as well as ADC candidates seeking seats in the National Assembly and Katsina State House of Assembly.

According to him, the goal is to build a coordinated campaign framework that supports all party candidates and maximises the ADC’s electoral chances across the state.

He called on campaign coordinators, support teams and party officials at every level to work together and avoid internal divisions that could undermine the party’s ambitions.

Also speaking, spokesperson for the Ahmad Babba Kaita Gubernatorial Campaign, Abubakar Ahmed, said the meeting marked the beginning of a series of activities designed to prepare the party for the formal launch of the ADC presidential campaign in Katsina State.

He noted that the consultations and organisational efforts currently underway are intended to ensure that the party enters the campaign season fully prepared and united.

The latest development underscores the growing political activity ahead of the 2027 elections, as parties continue to strengthen their structures and position themselves for what is expected to be one of Nigeria’s most closely contested electoral cycles.

For the ADC in Katsina, the message from the meeting was clear: the campaign has moved from planning to mobilisation, and the race for 2027 has effectively begun.
