President Bola Tinubu is set to travel to Makkah, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday to perform Umrah, the lesser Islamic pilgrimage, with prayers for Nigeria’s peace, unity and stability forming part of his planned spiritual journey.
The planned trip was announced on Wednesday evening by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a statement dated October 28, 2026.
According to the statement, Tinubu’s visit will offer him an opportunity for spiritual devotion and reflection, as he seeks divine guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its people.
During his stay in Makkah, the President will perform the religious rites associated with Umrah, a pilgrimage Muslims can undertake at any time of the year, unlike the annual Hajj, which takes place during a specific period in the Islamic calendar.
Before leaving Abuja, however, Tinubu is expected to commission newly acquired equipment for the Nigerian Air Force at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.
The equipment commissioning is scheduled to take place ahead of his departure, although the statement did not provide further details about the equipment or its operational capabilities.
Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the pilgrimage.
The trip comes as the President combines official duties with a religious journey, with prayers for the country’s continued progress expected to feature prominently during his stay in Saudi Arabia.
