President Bola Tinubu has vowed that Nigeria will not provide shelter for cybercriminals and members of international criminal networks who prey on innocent people, as his administration renews efforts to strengthen the fight against online fraud and cross-border crimes.
The President’s position comes after the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for helping to arrest and extradite two Nigerians accused of participating in international sextortion schemes targeting minors.
The suspects, Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale, were arrested and extradited to the United States in August 2026 following a joint investigation known as Operation Artemis.
The operation focused on criminal networks accused of sexually exploiting and extorting children, with investigators working across national borders to track down those involved.
FBI Director Kash Patel, in a letter to EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, acknowledged the commission’s cooperation and described its contribution as crucial to the operation’s success.
Tinubu’s renewed warning signals his administration’s intention to intensify cooperation with international law enforcement agencies in tackling cybercrime and organised criminal activities that operate across borders.
