The presidential candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of violating the law by arresting former House of Representatives member Muhammad Gudaji Kazaure without due process.

Atiku made the allegation in a statement published on Saturday morning, stating that Kazaure was arrested in Kano and taken to Abuja without notifying his family or legal representatives.

He described the act as unconstitutional, citing that the Nigerian Constitution mandates that any arrested person must be charged in court within a reasonable time or released if no charges are brought.

The former Vice President linked Kazaure’s arrest to his consistent criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, especially regarding the country's economic and security challenges.

Atiku expressed concern over the EFCC's use of intimidation and arbitrary arrests to silence government critics, warning that such actions undermine freedom of expression in Nigeria.

He also called on the federal government and the EFCC to halt such unlawful practices, stressing that Nigerians are watching closely and history will not forget these actions.
