35 Katsina Police Recruits Not Expelled as Widely Claimed — State Employment Department Clarifies

KATSINA, Nigeria – The Katsina State Department of Employment Promotion has debunked social media reports alleging that 35 Katsina State indigenes were expelled from the ongoing Police Constable recruitment training at the Police College, Kaduna.

In an official statement issued by Hon. Ya'u Ahmad Nowa Dandume, Special Adviser for Employment Promotion, the department confirmed that while 126 trainees were expelled nationwide, the actual number of affected candidates from Katsina State is significantly lower than the figure being circulated online.

According to the department, the expulsions were based on failure to meet critical recruitment standards, including minimum height, chest measurement, and medical fitness. The department emphasized that the disciplinary action affected candidates from various states and not Katsina alone.

“The number of affected candidates from Katsina State is not up to 35 as being speculated. This is a nationwide screening outcome, not isolated to Katsina,” the statement noted.

In response to the incident, the department disclosed that it is engaging with the Police Service Commission, the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, and Katsina stakeholders, including members of the National Assembly, to appeal for the reconsideration of some of the expulsions — especially in cases where disqualifications are due to minor issues.

“For those unable to be recalled due to serious medical conditions, we are advocating for their positions to be replaced with other qualified indigenes from Katsina State,” the statement added.

The department expressed sympathy with the affected candidates and urged the public and their families to remain calm, assuring them that efforts are underway to resolve the matter in favour of the state.

The statement reiterated the Katsina State Government’s commitment to ensuring fair representation and justice for its indigenes in national recruitment exercises.
