Five Community Security Officers Killed in Katsina Bandit Ambush
Katsina TIMES – May 24, 2025
Five members of the Community Security Watch Corps were killed in a deadly ambush by suspected bandits in Maharba village, Matazu Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The victims, including the unit commander, Mallam Sanusi, were reportedly heading for a reinforcement operation when they were attacked near a stream by about 20 armed bandits hiding in mango trees. Their Hilux vehicle was set ablaze during the attack, killing all five onboard.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda visited the scene alongside top security officials to conduct an on-the-spot assessment. The delegation included the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Muazu Danmusa, the State Commissioner of Police, DSS Director, Chief of Staff, and the Matazu LGA Chairman, Alhaji Shamsudeen Muhammad Sayaya.
Governor Radda inspected the site, where the burnt-out vehicle was still smoldering, and later engaged with residents in surrounding communities to assess security needs.
Speaking to journalists, the governor condemned the attack and promised to strengthen collaboration with security agencies and local stakeholders to prevent future incidents.
“We are adopting new strategies to better protect our people. The sacrifice of these brave men will not be in vain,” he said.
Commissioner Danmusa described the visit as part of a broader security evaluation. He noted recent gains against bandits, especially around the Ruwan Godiya axis, but admitted that challenges persist.
He appealed to residents to support the government with prayers and patience as efforts continue to restore peace.
Governor Radda also extended condolences to the families of the slain officers, praying for strength and comfort as the state mourns the loss.
