The Katsina State Government has raised concerns over the delay in the conduct of the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) English Language paper, which reportedly commenced behind schedule on May 28th, 2025, causing widespread disruption across examination centres in the state.

According to a circular issued by the Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, the examination was conducted under poor conditions, with some students forced to write the paper in darkness using torchlights, mobile phones, and under minimal security lighting. This situation drew concern from parents, invigilators, and school officials alike.

In response, the Honourable Commissioner of Education paid a visit to the WAEC Branch Office in Katsina to express dissatisfaction over the incident. She also submitted a formal request to WAEC for the cancellation of the affected paper, citing fears that the irregularities would significantly impact students' performance and outcomes.

The Commissioner further appealed to parents, schools, and the general public to remain calm and await the response from WAEC regarding the petition.

Meanwhile, all Zonal Coordinators have been directed to instruct schools under their jurisdiction to ensure that candidates sit according to their serial numbers in future SSCE and other related examinations that require exam numbers.

The Permanent Secretary, Ummulkhairi Ahmad Bawa, who signed the circular on behalf of the Commissioner, conveyed the Ministry’s appreciation to all stakeholders for their understanding and patience during this period.
