The Katsina State Government has officially flagged off the 2025 Batch A Stream II National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation course, with a strong call for corps members to see their service year as an honour and a rare opportunity to contribute to national development.
The event, held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp along Mani Road, Katsina City, was declared open on Friday, June 13, 2025, by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Garba Faskari, who represented Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda, PhD.
While addressing the newly deployed corps members, Faskari conveyed the Governor’s warm regards and reassured them of Katsina’s hospitable environment.
“On behalf of the government and the good people of Katsina State, I welcome you warmly and urge you to feel at home. Katsina is NYSC-friendly, and I want to assure you of a peaceful and conducive atmosphere throughout your service year,” he said.
He described the orientation course as a crucial foundation that prepares corps members physically, emotionally, and mentally for the task ahead.
“You will be exposed to issues of national security, good governance, and community development. These exercises are designed to condition your mind and body for effective participation in nation-building,” he added.
The Secretary to the Government further appreciated the invaluable contributions of NYSC members to the state, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and grassroots development.
“We are proud of the legacy left by your predecessors. I challenge you to live up to their standard and work hard to uplift the development of Katsina State and the nation,” he noted.
He urged corps members to avoid all forms of anti-social behaviour, political or religious intolerance, and to always uphold the NYSC motto: Service and Humanity.
“No matter the situation you may find yourself in during the service year, always remember that this is a call to honour and a demonstration of your worth to the fatherland,” Faskari concluded before declaring the orientation course open.
Over 1,200 Corps Members Registered – NYSC Coordinator
In his remarks, the NYSC State Coordinator, Alhaji Sa’id Ibrahim, welcomed the corps members and appreciated the state government for its continued support to the scheme.
“It is with immense pleasure and a deep sense of duty that I welcome you all to the 2025 Batch A Stream II orientation course. We are especially honoured by the presence and support of His Excellency, Governor Dikko Radda,” he said.
He disclosed that a total of 1,201 corps members – comprising 696 males and 505 females – had been duly registered as of June 13, and were already showing commendable enthusiasm.
“The orientation programme has been carefully designed to instil discipline, resilience, and civic responsibility. It includes leadership training, lectures on national integration, and skills acquisition programs,” he stated.
The coordinator emphasized the importance of vocational training through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, describing it as key to reducing reliance on white-collar jobs.
“In today’s world, skill is no longer optional – it is essential. We urge corps members to actively participate and take advantage of the opportunities provided,” he urged.
He further expressed gratitude to the state government for various support efforts including the renovation of hostels, provision of furniture, and general improvement of camp facilities.
“These interventions have significantly boosted the morale of both staff and corps members and will enhance the overall camp experience,” he added.
Chief Judge Administers Oath of Allegiance
The swearing-in of corps members was conducted by the Chief Judge of Katsina State, Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar, who administered the oath of allegiance, officially marking the beginning of the one-year mandatory national service for the 2025 Batch A Stream II members.
