Katsina TIMES – June 22, 2025

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Katsina State Command, has refuted social media reports alleging that a recent fatal road accident occurred along the Dutsin-Ma–Katsina highway.

In an official statement signed by Corps Commander Maxwell Kaltungo Lede, the FRSC clarified that no such crash took place in recent times, contrary to viral posts circulating across various platforms. According to the statement, the images and videos accompanying the false reports were traced to an accident that occurred approximately five years ago along the same route.

Commander Lede disclosed that following the report, he instructed his officers to conduct a thorough investigation. The team reportedly inspected all known accident-prone spots along the highway, consulted with local authorities, security agencies, and reviewed operational logs and incident records.

“Our findings clearly revealed that no such crash occurred within the stated period,” the statement said. “It is unfortunate and misleading that individuals have chosen to recycle tragic content for sensationalism without verifying its authenticity.”

The FRSC condemned the spread of such misinformation, warning that it causes unnecessary panic among citizens and undermines the efforts of road safety officials. The Sector Commander urged the public to disregard the false report and advised social media users to verify information before sharing it.

“The power of social media should be used responsibly,” he cautioned. “Spreading outdated or false information can result in real-world consequences, including fear, confusion, and misallocation of emergency resources.”

Commander Lede reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to road safety in Katsina and beyond, assuring that patrol teams remain active in monitoring roads, educating the public, and responding swiftly to incidents.

He concluded by thanking the public for their continued cooperation and urged citizens to report verified incidents to the nearest FRSC office or security agencies.
