The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), in collaboration with the CLEEN Foundation, has launched a three-day capacity-building workshop aimed at equipping Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) with strategic communication skills for behavioural change and the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV).

The training, which commenced on Tuesday, 24th June 2025, in Kaduna, is part of ongoing efforts by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., to promote professional conduct and improve public trust in the Force. The workshop is specifically targeted at PPROs from the northern region and focuses on Social and Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) strategies to enhance the police’s public engagement and response to GBV cases.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Acting Executive Director of CLEEN Foundation, Mr. Peter Maduoma, underscored the organization’s commitment to security sector reform and inclusive policing. He noted CLEEN’s continued support for law enforcement agencies through evidence-based research and training programmes that promote human rights and accountability.

Representing the IGP at the virtual launch, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi urged participants to take the training seriously, emphasizing its importance in building stronger community relations and combating gender-based violence. He applauded CLEEN Foundation for initiating the workshop at a critical time.

The training features expert-led sessions on gender-sensitive policing, community engagement, and communication techniques tailored to prevent violence and promote safer communities.

The programme is expected to boost the professionalism of police spokespersons and further position the Force as a responsive and community-oriented institution.
