The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has announced a major breakthrough in the ongoing Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline project, confirming the successful crossing of the River Niger — a critical stage in the infrastructure’s development.

The announcement was made by the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, during his keynote address at the 24th NOG Energy Week held on Tuesday, 1st July 2025.

Engr. Ojulari described the crossing as a “significant milestone,” noting that it was achieved through contract reengineering and strong industry collaboration. He added that the development has brought the project closer to completion, now projected for the last quarter of 2025.

In another major development, the GCEO revealed that Nigeria recorded 100% availability on its major crude oil pipelines throughout the month of June 2025 — the first time in recent years. He attributed the success to intensified security interventions led by NNPC Ltd., which he said have contributed to increased crude oil production.

Ojulari also emphasised the need for sustained investment to enhance production levels. He pointed out that NNPC Ltd. has consistently met its cash-call obligations in Joint Venture operations, a move that has strengthened confidence in the company’s financial discipline.

According to him, the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA 2021) has positioned NNPC Ltd. as a key player in driving industry growth and project financing.

Looking ahead to the 2025 edition of the NOG Energy Week, Ojulari expressed hope that the conference would evolve beyond dialogue to a platform where tangible performance is recognised and investment deals are concluded.
