The Federal Ministry of Environment has issued an early warning of potential flooding in several states across Nigeria, including Daura in Katsina State, due to anticipated heavy rainfall between 16th and 20th July, 2025.
In a notice released through its National Flood Early Warning Center (FEWS CENTER), the Ministry cautioned that several locations and their surrounding areas may experience significant downpours that could result in floods.
According to the alert, Daura in Katsina State is among the listed locations likely to be affected. Other states identified include Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Borno, Bauchi, Plateau, Yobe, Kano, Jigawa, Cross River, Zamfara, and others.
The Ministry advised stakeholders and residents in the affected areas to take proactive measures to prevent loss of lives and property.
The Director of Erosion, Flood and Coastal Zone Management Department, Usman Abdullahi Bokani, emphasized the importance of preparedness and urged state governments and community leaders to disseminate the information widely and ensure appropriate action is taken.
He further noted that the Ministry welcomes feedback and cooperation from state representatives and stakeholders to mitigate the expected impacts of flooding.
