Veteran Kannywood actress, Ummi Nuhu, has emotionally opened up about the hardships she currently faces, years after enjoying fame and fortune in the Hausa film industry. In a tearful interview, Ummi admitted that a mistake she made at the height of her career is now haunting her, with producers and industry colleagues turning their backs on her.

Speaking during an episode of Gabon Talk Show hosted by Hadiza Gabon,

“I once had everything any woman in the film industry could dream of. Fame, wealth, recognition – it was all mine. But now, no one wants to cast me in a movie because of a mistake I made in the past. People keep looking back at it, refusing to move on.”

Ummi Nuhu confessed that acting is the only craft she truly knows, yet the very industry that gave her purpose has abandoned her. She revealed she’s battling illness and has no source of income or support, leaving her in a state of emotional distress.

“I have never been married, despite my age. Life has come to a standstill. I live in depression. I admit I made a mistake, but I don’t deserve to be completely written off.”

Her story has emerged as a powerful cautionary tale, especially for young women rising to fame through video podcasts, YouTube, and social media platforms — many of whom speak openly and harshly about marriage without having experienced it themselves.

Some of these influencers exploit their popularity to promote controversial views that disrespect the institution of marriage, spreading inflammatory opinions that sow confusion and chaos in society — particularly among impressionable young people who lack real-life understanding of marital life.

While such content may bring momentary fame or virality online, the long-term consequences can be damaging. Ummi Nuhu’s experience stands as a sobering example: she once enjoyed the spotlight, but now endures the painful consequences of decisions made without regard for values and integrity.

Marriage is not just a social contract — it is a religious and cultural pillar that supports peace and progress within society. It is unwise for someone with no marital experience to publicly criticise or demean an institution they don’t understand.

Ummi Nuhu’s life journey is a stark reminder that social media fame is fleeting. True success lies in living with dignity, foresight, and values. For young women climbing the ladder of public recognition, her experience should serve as a mirror — a reflection of what can happen when fame is pursued without discipline, honour, or respect for the institution of marriage.

As Ummi Nuhu now seeks help in her time of need, her past serves not only as a lesson, but as a warning: the applause of today can fade into the silence of tomorrow — and only those who built their lives on solid values will stand strong when the spotlight dims.
