The Katsina State Government has strongly condemned a fresh attack by suspected bandits in Dutsinma Local Government Area and neighbouring communities, describing it as a threat to the state’s peace and security efforts.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Katsina Government House on Thursday, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, described the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, as tragic and unacceptable.
“This is a direct attack on our collective peace and the safety of our people,” Dr. Mu’azu said. He also expressed concern over the growing spread of misinformation and rumours on social media, warning that such acts undermine the efforts of Governor Malam Dikko Umar Radda’s administration in ensuring security and good governance.
The Commissioner disclosed that Governor Radda had ordered the immediate deployment of reinforced security personnel to Dutsinma and other affected areas to restore calm and prevent further incidents. He assured that security agencies are working tirelessly to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
According to Mu’azu, several local government areas, including Jibia, Batsari, Danmusa, Katsina, Batagarawa, and Charanci, remain relatively peaceful due to ongoing government-led security initiatives. However, he acknowledged that some areas—namely Malumfashi, Kurfi, Dutsinma, and Kankara—still face significant security challenges, though measures are in place to address them.
The Commissioner also raised concern over reports suggesting that some attacks may be receiving internal support from within affected communities. He urged residents to shun all forms of collaboration or sympathy for criminal elements, warning that such behaviour threatens the safety of all.
“No community can achieve true security if it harbours or supports bandits. The best form of defence is vigilance,” he stated. He encouraged residents to take responsibility for the safety of their neighbourhoods and to report suspicious movements or individuals promptly.
Dr. Mu’azu concluded by reaffirming the state government’s unwavering commitment to fighting banditry and restoring lasting peace. He stated that Governor Radda’s administration is implementing strategic initiatives aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
The government also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperative with security operatives, assuring them that the fight against insecurity will not relent until peace is fully restored across all parts of Katsina State.
