Katsina State stole the spotlight at a high-profile stakeholder meeting held at the Lagos Continental Hotel on September 11, 2025, showcasing its strides in expanding health insurance coverage for vulnerable populations. The Katsina State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KTSCHMA), in collaboration with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), joined national and state-level stakeholders to highlight achievements under the GAC-funded Primary Health Care (PHC) program.

Under the visionary leadership of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, Katsina State has prioritized health as a cornerstone of development, focusing on inclusive health financing and gender-responsive service delivery. Since 2023, the state has significantly expanded access to healthcare for pregnant women and children under five through strategic enrollment in the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) and robust counterpart funding.

Dr. Musa Adamu Funtua, the Honorable Commissioner of Health, was lauded for his tireless policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement, positioning Katsina as a model for sustainable health reforms. “The leadership of Governor Radda and Dr. Funtua has been instrumental in driving our state toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” said the Director General of KTSCHMA,

At the summit, KTSCHMA took center stage in a panel discussion titled “Value for Money in BHCPF,” addressing service utilization, enrollee satisfaction, and sustainable exit strategies. The agency also contributed to an interactive session on expanding health insurance for Nigeria’s informal sector, a critical step in reducing out-of-pocket healthcare costs.

“We are proud to share Katsina’s progress,” the KTSCHMA Director General declared. “This initiative is transforming lives and building a stronger health system for future generations.”

The meeting also reviewed and validated the Year 4 project workplan, aligning with the Federal Ministry of Health’s Health Sector Strategic Blueprint (HSSB) and Sector-Wide Approach (SWAp).

Katsina’s commitment to health equity continues to inspire, setting a benchmark for other states in the pursuit of accessible, quality healthcare for all.
