The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) branch, has congratulated the Executive Governor of Katsina State on the award of an honorary doctorate degree by Umaru Musa Yar’adua University, Katsina.

In a press statement issued on Monday, ASUU-UMYU described the conferment as recognition of the governor’s leadership, commitment to educational development and contributions to the advancement of Katsina State and Nigeria.

The union said the award reflects the university’s acknowledgement of policies and actions that have strengthened the education sector under the governor’s administration.

ASUU-UMYU particularly commended the governor’s policy of granting automatic employment to the best graduating students from each department of the university, describing the initiative as a measure that promotes academic excellence and motivates students to strive for distinction.

According to the statement, the policy also demonstrates the governor’s commitment to merit-based advancement, youth empowerment and human capital development.

The union further described the governor as a trailblazer in educational advancement, noting that he is the first state governor in Nigeria to approve the implementation of a new salary structure for university staff, following its adoption at federal universities in January 2026.
