Obi Urges Nigerians to Move Beyond Past Failures, Focus on Building Secure Nation

Presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has called on Nigerians to move beyond past mistakes and focus on building a secure nation anchored on effective leadership.

Obi made the call during a meeting with his supporters in Katsina, where he spoke on the need for political change and reforms in governance.

Addressing the current state of the country, Obi said it was time for Nigerians to move past longstanding challenges that have continued to hinder national progress. He stressed that past failures should not remain an obstacle to the country’s development.

The former Anambra State governor described insecurity as a major concern, noting that persistent killings and conflicts must not be allowed to continue. According to him, protecting lives and property remains the primary responsibility of any government.

“What we are striving to achieve is to build a new Nigeria — a secure Nigeria,” Obi said.

He further emphasized that good governance must be rooted in competence, integrity, and knowledge, adding that leaders must demonstrate the capacity to deliver critical infrastructure and public services.

Obi’s visit to Katsina forms part of ADC’s ongoing political engagements aimed at strengthening support for the party, as its leadership reiterates commitment to reforms and improved governance.

In his remarks, a chieftain of the party in Katsina State, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa, said Nigeria continues to recycle political narratives dating back to the era of Ahmadu Bello, Shehu Shagari, and Olusegun Obasanjo without significant progress.

The event, organised by the Peter Obi Grassroots Alliance North West, was held at Jamvelly Hotel and attracted a large number of supporters from across the state.

During the engagement, Obi criticised current office holders for failing to provide essential services such as potable water, quality education, electricity, and healthcare. He urged Nigerians to elect leaders capable of safeguarding lives and property.

Also speaking, ADC governorship aspirant in Katsina State for the 2027 elections, Lawal Musa Daura, said their alliance with Obi is driven by a shared vision for change, adding that their policy direction would be unveiled in due course.

Inuwa further noted that Nigeria’s politics remains heavily influenced by regional and ideological divisions, stressing the need to prioritise national development. He also called on young people to actively participate in electing credible leaders.

Other speakers at the event included Yasir Al-Bashir and Hauwa Yar Gata, alongside other stakeholders. The gathering was also attended by Wada Protocol and Ibrahim Abdulkarim, as well as party leaders at both state and national levels.
