Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has condemned the abduction of residents along Airport Road in Benin City, describing the incident as a serious threat to public safety and an attack on law-abiding citizens.
The governor's position was conveyed in a statement issued on Monday by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr Patrick Ebojele, following the kidnapping that occurred on Sunday in the Vegetable Market area of the road.
Okpebholo directed the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, to launch an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the incident. He said security agencies must work swiftly to rescue the victims and ensure that those behind the crime are apprehended.
The governor stressed that his administration would not condone criminal activities capable of undermining the security and peace of the state, reiterating his commitment to protecting lives and property.
He also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information on suspicious persons or activities within their communities.
According to him, prompt intelligence from members of the public would strengthen ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to tackle crime and improve security across the state.
Okpebholo assured residents that the government would pursue the perpetrators relentlessly and ensure they face the full consequences of the law.
