Troops from Operation FANSAN YAMMA intercepted an illicit weapons transport and rescued six kidnapped commuters in two separate operations across Zamfara State on Sunday.
The first breakthrough occurred along the Kaura Namoda–Shinkafi Road, where Sector 2 troops intercepted a vehicle carrying three suspected gun runners. A search revealed an AK-103-2 rifle, a magazine, and 30 rounds of live ammunition concealed inside a bag of millet. Investigators believe the weapons were bound for terrorist elements in Yar-Galadima, Maru Local Government Area. The suspects remain in military custody.
Hours later, troops mounted a rapid-response operation following an armed attack on motorists along the Anka–Gummi Road. Arriving at the scene, soldiers engaged the terrorists who were attempting to drag captured commuters into the nearby bush. Under heavy fire, the assailants fled into the forest, abandoning all six hostages.
Three of the rescued victims suffered minor injuries during the ambush and received emergency treatment at a nearby medical facility. All six are currently in stable condition.
In a statement released Monday, Joint Task Force spokesperson Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja reaffirmed the military's push to choke off arms supply lines in the North West, urging residents to maintain vigilance and continue sharing intelligence with security forces.
