The Katsina State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in collaboration with EU-UNESCO, has concluded preparations to train 3,202 teachers under the E-U UNESCO's Expand, Integrate and Strengthen Systems (EISS) Project.
The training is aimed at strengthening teachers capacity, on digital competence and resilience.
The initiative is being implemented with technical support from UNESCO and funded by the European Union under its Education and Youth Empowerment Programme in Nigeria.
It could be recalled that, the training is the second phase of the EISS Project, covering the period between 2024–2028.
Under the programme, 3,202 teachers drawn from mapped public primary and junior secondary schools, as well as selected private and community schools, will benefit from the training across eight Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
The beneficiary LGAs are Charanchi, Daura, Dutsi, Funtua, Kaita, Katsina, Malumfashi and Zango.
According to the Ministry, the training will be conducted at the LGA level using the Training-of-Trainers (ToT) approach, under which master trainers will cascade the training to participating teachers using modules based on the revised Basic Education Curriculum.
As part of the project, UNESCO has also developed a free 13-module Digital Pedagogy Online Learning Platform, designed to equip teachers with practical knowledge and skills in digital tools, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and modern pedagogical approaches.
The Ministry has therefore called on teachers within the designated areas to register on the platform, complete all 13 modules and obtain their certificates of completion.
The initiative is expected to enhance teachers’ digital competencies, strengthen their professional capacity and contribute to more effective teaching and learning across Katsina State.
The State Focal Person for the EU–UNESCO EISS Project, Malam Kabir Dodo, urged the 12 Zonal Coordinators and relevant education authorities to support the sensitisation and mobilisation of teachers to take full advantage of the free professional development opportunity.
