Katsinatimes | October 6, 2026:

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, has approved the appointment of seven persons to various positions in the state government, including renowned Islamic scholar and prominent JIBWIS leader, Sheikh Dr Nasiru Abdulrahman Funtua, as Chairman of the Katsina State Pilgrims Welfare Board.

The appointments were announced in a statement issued by the Katsina State Government.

Other appointees include Dr Sirajo Yakubu Batagarawa and Mallam Abubakar Kabir Kusada, who were appointed Special Advisers to the Governor.

Sheikh Funtua is expected to oversee the affairs of the Pilgrims Welfare Board, with the government saying his appointment is aimed at strengthening the administration of pilgrims’ affairs and improving services to pilgrims.

Dr Batagarawa, a lawyer and quantity surveyor with a PhD in Law from the University of London, has experience in academia, public administration and security. He previously served as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Public and International Law at Nile University of Nigeria and also worked in the Federal Civil Service, including with the Department of State Services.

Kusada, who has a background in education and administration, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education (English) from the University of Jos and is pursuing a master’s degree in English Language at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma. He previously held administrative positions at the university before joining the Transmission Company of Nigeria, where he rose to the position of Assistant Manager.

Governor Radda also appointed Alhaji Shamsuddeen Surajo Wowo Dutsin-Ma as Director-General of the Katsina State Erosion and Watershed Management Agency (KEWMA).

In a message to the appointees, Governor Radda described their appointments as a call to service and urged them to justify the confidence placed in them by prioritising the interests of the people of Katsina State.

He directed the appointees to align their responsibilities with the administration’s Building Your Future agenda and contribute to improved governance, institutional development and service delivery.

The Governor also emphasised accountability, diligence and measurable results, while urging the appointees to remain accessible and responsive to the people.
