The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Transportation, Daura (FUTD), Hon. Wahab Akanni Owokoniran, has inspected ongoing projects being executed at the university to assess their progress and ensure compliance with approved standards.
Owokoniran conducted the inspection on Monday, August 24, 2026, alongside members of the university management and a representative of the Chairman of the Governing Council’s Project Monitoring Committee.
Before commencing the inspection, the Pro-Chancellor met with members of the university management, where he stressed the importance of teamwork and cooperation in achieving the institution’s development objectives.
He said the visit was aimed at obtaining first-hand information on the university’s needs while also monitoring the quality and progress of projects secured by the Governing Council.
“Before embarking on the inspection, I decided to first interact with the University Management. This interaction is the second we are having in 2026,” Owokoniran said.
He assured the management that he would continue to engage with them regularly to better understand the university’s needs and encouraged them to support the Governing Council in discharging its responsibilities.
According to him, the Council had facilitated several projects for the university, including the Senate Building, Centre for Railway Signal and Communication, student hostel accommodation, renovation of the Great Green Wall Building and its conversion into the Centre of Transpo-Entrepreneurship.
Other projects, he said, include the construction of workshops, a School of General Studies building, blocks of classrooms and faculty buildings.
Owokoniran explained that the inspection was necessary to assess the level of progress on the projects and ensure that construction works met the required quality and contractual standards.
He noted that FUTD, being one of the newly established universities, required durable infrastructure capable of serving generations of students and staff.
At the end of the inspection, the Pro-Chancellor expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded on the projects, describing the achievements as a “giant stride” and an uncommon accomplishment within a relatively short period.
He particularly commended the university management for its cooperation with the Vice-Chancellor, saying such collaboration had contributed significantly to the progress witnessed.
“I believe the achievements we witnessed today would not have been possible without your cooperation with the Vice-Chancellor. I thank you for that, and I urge you to please maintain this spirit of collaboration,” he said.
Owokoniran also commended the contractors handling the projects for the quality of work and urged them to sustain the standards.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Hon. Prof. Umar Adam Katsayal, mni, welcomed the Pro-Chancellor and thanked him for taking time from his busy schedule to inspect the projects.
He said the visit demonstrated the importance the Governing Council Chairman attached to the university and its development.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the meeting marked the second formal interaction between the Pro-Chancellor and the university management in 2026, expressing hope that the engagement would continue.
The project inspection was led by the Director of Physical Planning and Municipal Services, Arch. Usman Mukhtar Wali, who briefed the Pro-Chancellor and members of the management on the various projects at their respective sites.
During the inspection, Owokoniran made observations and offered recommendations aimed at further improving the quality and execution of the projects.
The Pro-Chancellor and members of the university management also interacted with contractors and consultants handling the projects.
