Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has handed over official vehicles and staff of office to 19 newly coronated emirs, comprising 11 first-class and eight second-class traditional rulers.
The presentation took place during a coronation ceremony at the Trade Fair Complex in Gusau, the state capital, attended by prominent traditional rulers, including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; the Etsu Nupe; and the Emir of Gwandu.
Following the administration of their oaths of office, the 19 emirs received their respective staff of office, formally recognising their authority over their domains.
Each emir was also presented with a package of official vehicles comprising a 2025/2026 GAC Ultra SUV, a Mikano ZNA Hilux and an EV Antique Model car.
The state government said the vehicles were intended to ease the traditional rulers’ movements across their emirates, improve their engagement with residents and strengthen communication with government institutions.
Speaking at the ceremony, Lawal described the traditional institution as an important pillar of society, particularly in promoting peace, stability and development at the grassroots.
He said the staff of office represented the authority and responsibility entrusted to the emirs, urging them to administer their domains with fairness, integrity, wisdom and compassion.
The governor cautioned the traditional rulers against discrimination and urged them to ensure that their palaces remained accessible to all residents seeking guidance, justice and assistance.
Lawal also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the remaining royal palaces, describing the projects as part of efforts to strengthen traditional institutions and improve their working conditions.
He further urged the newly installed emirs to maintain a constructive relationship with the state government and use their positions to support peace and development in their communities.
In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, urged the new emirs to remain loyal to constituted authority and protect the dignity and integrity of the traditional institution as they begin their responsibilities.
