The Chairman of the National Population Commission (NPC), Hon. Nasir Isa Kwarra, on Monday, 30th June 2025, led deliberations at the 2025 Nigeria Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) Steering Committee meeting held at the Reiz Continental Hotel in Abuja.
At the session, Hon. Kwarra presented the draft report and dataset for the 2024 NDHS and sought the Committee’s approval to commence the implementation of the 2025 mini NDHS starting from July 1. The committee unanimously endorsed the request.
In his remarks, the NPC Chairman expressed appreciation to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and the entire ministry for their continued trust in the Commission. He reaffirmed the NPC’s commitment to generating high-quality data to inform effective health sector planning and policy decisions.
The mini NDHS is a streamlined version of the national survey, designed to bridge the data gap between full DHS cycles. It aims to enhance the availability of updated health and demographic indicators, measure the outcomes of ongoing interventions, and enable timely policy adjustments to improve the wellbeing of Nigerians.
According to Hon. Kwarra, while the NPC will lead the implementation of the survey, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare will provide necessary oversight. The SWAP Office is also expected to support the initiative by mobilising required resources.
Hon. Kwarra was accompanied to the meeting by the NPC Acting Director-General, Barr. Mrs. Chioma Umeh, Director of Planning and Research Department, Mr. Oliver Mezue, as well as other key technical officers from the Commission.
