The Jibia Security Joint Committee (JSJC), speaking on behalf of the entire community of Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, has congratulated Air Commodore Garba Ibrahim Jibia on his promotion to the prestigious rank of Air Vice Marshal in the Nigerian Air Force, describing the elevation as a well-earned reward for excellence, patriotism, and an illustrious military career committed to securing Nigeria.
In a Press Release issued on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, and signed by the Committee’s Chairman, Alhaji Gide Dahiru, the group said the promotion reflects not only the Federal Government’s recognition of Jibia’s remarkable service to the nation but also the collective pride of the people of Jibia, who regard him as one of their most accomplished and dedicated sons.
The Committee highlighted that Air Vice Marshal Jibia, an indigene of Jibia LGA, currently serving as Chief of Staff, Tactical Air Command, Makurdi, has demonstrated exceptional operational competence and strategic leadership throughout his career. “This elevation is a testament to his unwavering dedication, disciplined service, and the impactful achievements he has recorded in the Nigerian Air Force,” the Committee stated. It added that the community celebrates the promotion as a victory for hard work, integrity, and national service.
A significant portion of the Press Release focused on Jibia’s outstanding impact as Air Component Commander of Operation Hadarin Daji, now Operation Fansan Yamma Sector 2, where he initiated reforms that strengthened air operations across the northwest. The Forum noted that during his command, he introduced renewed tactical efficiency, intelligence-driven missions, real-time coordination with ground forces, and the disciplined conduct of aerial strikes that weakened terrorist networks operating in Katsina, Zamfara, Sokoto, and Niger States.
“Air Vice Marshal Jibia's command philosophy, anchored on timely intelligence, precision strikes, and strategic collaboration with land forces, led to the destruction of numerous terrorist enclaves and restored relative peace to communities in Jibia Local Government Area and across the region,” the statement read. The Committee further emphasized that his leadership contributed significantly to the restoration of security in rural communities that had previously been under pressure from bandit groups.
The Committee also acknowledged the remarkable improvements recorded under his watch, including the deployment of T-129 ATAK Helicopters, Alpha Jets, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, which enhanced surveillance, rapid response, and successful air interdiction missions. According to the Forum, these innovations redefined air operations in the northwest and demonstrated Jibia’s exceptional capacity for modern military leadership.
Beyond operational achievements, the Committee detailed the officer’s academic and professional background, noting that he is a member of the 44th Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, and a Master’s degree in Strategy and Defence Studies. He also served in numerous strategic roles within the Nigerian Air Force, including Military Assistant to the Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji; Deputy Director, Peacekeeping Operations; and Air Assistant to the Chief of the Air Staff.
Throughout his career, Air Vice Marshal Jibia has commanded key formations such as the 305 Special Mobility Group, Calabar; 303 Medium Airlift Group, Ilorin; and served as Air Component Operations Officer for Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri. His experience also extends to high-profile aviation platforms, as he is rated on the Gulfstream G550, Challenger 605, and the Presidential jet, having previously served as part of the Presidential Air Fleet in Abuja.
The Jibia Security Joint Committee used the opportunity to highlight some contributions, noting that the officer has maintained strong ties with home by supporting local security efforts and encouraging collaboration between security agencies and residents. According to the statement, he frequently engages with traditional leaders, youth groups, and community stakeholders to promote early intelligence reporting, peaceful coexistence, and vigilance. His interventions, the Committee added, have helped improve security response times, enhance intelligence sharing, and reduce incidents of cross-border crimes.
At the state level, the Committee pointed out that Air Vice Marshal Jibia has consistently championed improved surveillance technology, stronger inter-agency cooperation, and enhanced training for security personnel. His guidance has shaped ongoing discussions around border security, modern security reforms, and community-based intelligence gathering in Katsina State. He is also celebrated for mentoring young military officers and supporting initiatives that bridge gaps between security agencies and civilians.
Nationally, the Press Release described the newly promoted officer as an asset to Nigeria’s defence architecture. It noted that his contributions span strategic planning, operational coordination, and capacity development for air personnel across the country. Through forums, policy engagements, and advocacy for technological advancement, he has pushed for modernizing Nigeria’s air defence capabilities and integrating emerging technologies into military operations.
The Jibia Security Joint Committee further used the occasion to reflect on its own ongoing contributions to peace and security in the region. Under the leadership of Alhaji Gide Dahiru, the Committee has mobilized residents through peace dialogues, sensitization programmes, and community engagement initiatives aimed at preventing crime. It also maintains close collaboration with security agencies by providing grassroots intelligence, facilitating trust-building mechanisms, and advocating for more security personnel, patrol vehicles, and surveillance equipment for the area. The Forum also mediates conflicts involving farmers, pastoralists, and border communities, ensuring disputes do not escalate into violence.
In its concluding remarks, the Community prayed for continued success in Air Vice Marshal Garba Ibrahim Jibia’s military career and expressed confidence that he will continue to serve Nigeria with distinction and honour. “We believe this promotion will further strengthen his commitment to national security and inspire younger generations in Jibia and beyond,” the statement added.
