The new Chairman of National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Aminu Yusuf, has pledged to prioritize staff welfare, strengthen operational efficiency, and drive digital transformation within the Commission. He made the commitment today during his maiden meeting with staff at the NPC Headquarters in Abuja, following an earlier engagement with the management on Monday.
Dr. Yusuf, who recently assumed office, described the meeting as an important moment for charting a new course for the Commission. In his address, he emphasized that the mandate entrusted to the NPC by the President and the expectations of Nigerians require unity, clarity of vision, and renewed commitment from all staff.
Highlighting the outcomes of his earlier interaction with the leadership of the Joint Action Committee (JAC), the Chairman said the discussion was "frank, respectful, and centred on staff welfare, organizational cohesion, and overall operational health." He noted that the resolutions reached would form the foundation for improving workplace harmony, trust, and service delivery.
He urged all staff to embrace professionalism, responsibility, and openness to change, stressing that the Commission’s strength lies in the dedication and integrity of its workforce. “Let us move forward together with sincerity of purpose,” he declared, pledging to reposition the NPC as a model institution within Nigeria’s public service.
Speaking earlier on behalf of staff, Mrs. Ronke Adewunmi, representative of the staff union, commended the Chairman for engaging directly with the staff in his first week in office. She expressed optimism that his administration would prioritize dialogue, reform, and the resolution of long-standing staff concerns.
“Sir, the staff and unions of the National Population Commission have great expectations from your leadership,” Adewunmi said. “We are hopeful that your tenure will usher in a new era of renewed purpose, motivation, and productivity.”
She acknowledged the challenges that have confronted the Commission in recent years, including inadequate funding, welfare concerns, and structural bottlenecks but expressed confidence that the new leadership would provide the vision and stability needed to overcome them.
Reiterating the union’s partnership with management, Adewunmi emphasized that the JAC remains “a collaborator in progress, not an adversary,” committed to fostering industrial harmony and enhancing institutional performance. The union outlined several key areas requiring early attention.
In closing, Dr. Yusuf reaffirmed that his administration’s doors would remain open for constructive dialogue and collaboration, noting that the success of the Commission depends on a motivated workforce committed to excellence.
Director-General of the NPC, Dr. Osifo Tellson Ojogun was in attendance at both meetings with the staff union and the general staff.
