The Katsina State Government has condemned the killings in Kokami Village, Yakaji ‘A’ Ward of Danja Local Government Area, describing the incident as unfortunate and unacceptable.

In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Mu’azu, the government said the violence stemmed from a personal dispute between two individuals, Ibrahim Khalil Auwal and Joe, also known as K.C. Jones.

The statement said the incident occurred on April 4, 2026, when an argument over the purchase of garri and sachet water at a shop escalated into violence. Joe allegedly stabbed Auwal, who was rushed to Abdullahi Makama Hospital in Dabai, where he was later confirmed dead.

It added that following news of his death, some youths in the community mobilised, attacked Joe, killed him and set his body ablaze along the highway.

The government stressed that the incident was a criminal act arising from a personal disagreement and should not be misrepresented as an ethnic or religious conflict.

“The development is deeply unfortunate and against the values of peaceful coexistence in Katsina State,” the statement said.

It assured that all those involved in the violence would be brought to justice, warning that no individual has the right to take the law into their hands.

The government also called on residents to remain calm and law-abiding, and to avoid spreading rumours capable of escalating tension.

It added that security agencies had been deployed to the area, with joint patrols ongoing to maintain peace and prevent further breakdown of law and order, noting that normalcy had been restored.

The government, under Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, commiserated with the families of the deceased and urged community and religious leaders to support efforts aimed at sustaining peace in the area.
