Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has said that the Nigerian judiciary, rather than his party, is under public scrutiny following a recent Federal High Court ruling involving the deregistration of five political parties.

Mark made the remarks on Tuesday during the ADC Strategic Communications Retreat in Abuja while reacting to a judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, the former Senate President maintained that the controversy surrounding the court decision should be viewed as a test of the judiciary's commitment to due process and the rule of law.

According to him, public attention should be focused on the judicial process and how the relevant authorities respond to concerns raised about the ruling.

"The ADC is not the one on trial in this matter. The judiciary is the institution being closely watched, and Nigerians are waiting to see how the National Judicial Council will address the issues arising from the judgment," Mark stated.

He alleged that the presiding judge proceeded with the case despite an earlier directive by the Court of Appeal ordering a stay of proceedings. Mark further claimed that conflicting orders were issued regarding the status of the party within a short period, a development he said had raised questions among stakeholders.

Despite the legal dispute, the ADC chairman expressed confidence in the party's ability to overcome its current challenges. He urged members to remain united and focused, assuring them that the party would emerge stronger from the situation.

Mark dismissed fears that the development could weaken the party's resolve, insisting that the ADC remained committed to its objectives and political agenda.

"We should not be distracted by the actions of the ruling party or the challenges before us. This is a difficult period, but we have the capacity and determination to navigate it successfully," he said.

Addressing party officials and communication strategists at the retreat, Mark emphasized the need for a robust communication framework capable of expanding the party's appeal across the country.

He called on participants to develop compelling messages that resonate with Nigerians and effectively communicate the party's vision, policies, and values.

According to him, the ADC must position itself as a viable political alternative capable of attracting support not only from undecided voters but also from members of other political parties who seek a different direction for the country.

The former Senate President stressed that strategic communication would play a critical role in strengthening the party's visibility and credibility ahead of future electoral contests.

He urged party stakeholders to remain committed to promoting the ADC's ideals while building public confidence in its capacity to provide effective leadership and governance.

The retreat brought together key party communicators and strategists to review the ADC's messaging approach and explore ways of enhancing public engagement as preparations for future political activities gather momentum.
