The Katsina State Road Traffic and Safety Authority (KASSAROTA) has convened a stakeholder meeting involving transport operators, security agencies, and other relevant bodies to strengthen collaboration in reducing road accidents and tackling security challenges across the state.

The meeting took place at the agency’s headquarters on Nagogo Road, near Danmarna Filling Station, Katsina.

KASSAROTA Director, retired Major Garba Yahaya Rimi, described the gathering as a step towards deepening partnerships between the agency and key actors in the transport sector, with discussions centred on two major areas: safeguarding lives and property through adherence to traffic regulations, and enhancing security across the state.

“Our primary goal is to ensure strict compliance with traffic rules to minimise accidents, loss of lives, and destruction of property,” he stated. “Secondly, every stakeholder must contribute to maintaining security in Katsina State, in line with the commitment of Governor Malam Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration to tackling insecurity.”

He stressed that security should not be left to law enforcement alone, urging the public to play their part wherever they are. Rimi also highlighted some of KASSAROTA’s achievements, including the recovery of stolen vehicles and their handover to the police.

KASSAROTA Deputy Director, retired Major Dahiru Mani Bagiwa, commended the attendance of key stakeholders, noting: “If we join hands, share information, and align our objectives, we can make our roads safer and protect our communities from security threats.”

Also present were KASSAROTA Secretary, Al’amin Lawal Batsari, and the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Marwana Kofar Sauri, who outlined the purpose of the dialogue at the start of the session.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), and other stakeholders in the transport and security sectors.

Deliberations covered measures to curb unlicensed motor parks, enforce state transport regulations, and identify individuals exploiting the transport sector to conceal criminal activities, including drug trafficking.

At the end of the meeting, participants resolved to strengthen cooperation and joint action to address security and transportation challenges across Katsina State.
