Despite Peace Deal, Bandits Injure Soldiers in Faskari Ambush

Katsina Times | Monday, 15 September 2025

Despite a peace agreement recently brokered between community leaders and bandits in Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, a fresh ambush has cast doubt on the fragile truce. At least two soldiers sustained injuries during the attack.

According to a report by Zagazola Makama, the convoy of the commander of the 382 Army Regiment ran into the ambush along the Ruwan Godiya axis of the Sheme–Kankara road, while on routine patrol of military bases in Faskari, Mabai, and Dan Ali.

Although troops repelled the attackers, two soldiers were wounded. They received initial treatment in Mabai before being transferred to the 17 Brigade medical facility.

Military sources noted that the courage of the soldiers prevented greater casualties. However, the incident occurred just as peace talks with armed groups were being presented as a pathway to stability in the troubled region.

Security analysts argue that the attack underscores the uncertainty of peace deals with bandits, warning that such agreements often leave both civilians and security forces vulnerable.
