The Katsina State Police Command has held activities to commemorate 70 years of women in the Nigeria Police Force, with a focus on inspiring young girls and raising awareness on Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

As part of the events, female officers from the command visited the Women Teachers College, Katsina, where they held a career talk aimed at encouraging female students to consider careers in policing. The officers briefed the students on the various roles available to women in the force, opportunities for career growth, and challenges associated with the profession. They also shared personal experiences and responded to questions from the students.

The principal of the college commended the command for what she described as an impactful engagement, noting that the session broadened the students’ understanding of policing and ignited interest in law-enforcement careers. She pledged the institution’s support for future police-community initiatives.

In a related activity, the command organised a 5-kilometre awareness walk on Gender-Based Violence, which passed through major streets of Katsina. The walk drew participation from students, civil society organisations, market women, and residents, who chanted advocacy messages and distributed information materials promoting reporting channels and support services for survivors.

The command said it remains committed to advancing gender inclusion, community safety, and youth empowerment and will continue to promote initiatives that strengthen public trust and collaboration.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu.
