The newly appointed Acting Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) of Customs, Frank Onyeka, has on Friday, 22 May 2026, expressed confidence in the capacity of Comptroller Joe Anani to sustain the achievements of the Tincan Island Port Command as he officially handed over leadership of the Command, following his elevation to the rank of Ag. ACG.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ag. ACG Onyeka described his tenure at the Command as challenging, rewarding, and impactful, noting that the successes recorded were made possible through the support of officers, stakeholders, and the leadership of the Nigeria Customs Service.

Reflecting on the Command’s achievements, Ag. ACG Onyeka disclosed that the Tincan Island Port Command generated a total revenue of ₦1.6 trillion in 2025, while also collecting ₦401 billion within the first quarter of 2026.

“This achievement was not accidental. It was the product of discipline, intelligence-driven operations, improved compliance, robust stakeholder engagement, and deployment of modern trade facilitation tools aimed at enforcing legitimate trade,” he stated.

“Today, as I hand over the leadership of the Command to Comptroller Joe Anani, I do so having absolute confidence in his competence, his capacity, and leadership experience,” he added.

In his remarks, Comptroller Anani expressed gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for entrusting him with the responsibility, and commended Ag. ACG Onyeka for the strides recorded in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling operations during his tenure.

“These achievements have raised the bar and strengthened the reputation of the Tincan Island Port Command as a critical gateway for legitimate trade. I pledge to continue on these gains and build a Command that is even more efficient, transparent, and result-oriented,” Anani stated.

The new Customs Area Controller charged officers of the Command to remain professional, disciplined, and intelligence-driven in the discharge of their duties, stressing that compromise and inefficiency would not be tolerated.

“In the discharge of your duties, professionalism, intelligence and discipline must remain the hallmark of our conduct. We will not tolerate compromise, inefficiency, or acts that undermine the Service and the nation entirely,” he warned.

Comptroller Anani also called for sustained collaboration among sister agencies operating within the Command, and urged stakeholders to ensure full compliance, while also pledging to operate an open-door policy aimed at encouraging constructive engagement and sustaining the progress already achieved at the Tincan Island Port Command.
