The Katsina State Police Command has arrested six suspects over an alleged violent attack on residents of Keku Village in Musawa Local Government Area during preparations for the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday afternoon when a group of youths armed with sticks and machetes allegedly attacked villagers, leaving several people injured.

According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, operatives of the Command’s VCRU unit swiftly responded after receiving distress reports from the area.

Police said the operation led to the arrest of six suspects identified as Dayyabu Salisu, 25; Usama Mansur, 23; Yunusa Nura, 27; Abdulmumini Alka, 23; Buhari Suleiman, 27; and Abubakar Safiyanu, 27.

Security operatives also recovered machetes, sticks, and motorcycles allegedly linked to the attack.

Preliminary investigations, according to the police, indicated that the suspects allegedly conspired to disrupt the peaceful Sallah celebrations and destabilise the relative calm being enjoyed in the community.

“The prompt response of VCRU personnel prevented the situation from escalating further,” the statement noted.

The injured victims were said to have been taken to a nearby hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.

The police added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the completion of investigations.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Ali Umar Fage condemned the attack and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He urged residents to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security agencies, and promptly report suspicious activities to the police.

The Command also reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against thuggery, mob violence, and any act capable of threatening public peace during the Sallah festivities.
