In a bid to tackle poverty and boost economic self-reliance, the Katsina State Government has launched a large-scale skills acquisition program targeting 2,500 youths and women across the state.
The initiative, spearheaded in collaboration with the 9jaFood Fiesta Empowerment Program, the Office of the First Lady, and the State Ministry of Women Affairs, officially kicked off on Thursday in Katsina.
Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar Yar’adua, who served as the Chief Host, described the program as “a beacon of hope, a catalyst for transformation, and a celebration of potential.”
According to her, the initiative aligns with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s “Building Your Future” development blueprint, aimed at creating inclusive platforms for economic empowerment, especially for youths, women, and persons with disabilities.
"This is more than just training — it's an investment in people, in purpose, and in progress," she said. “These are lifelines, wings, and keys to independence, dignity, and economic freedom.”
The Program Coordinator and Founder of 9jaFood Fiesta, Alhaji Muhammed Mustapha, highlighted the scheme’s practical approach and its focus on market-driven skills such as agriculture, culinary arts, fashion design, and information technology.
"This initiative is about rewriting the narrative for 2,500 people across Katsina State, giving them the tools to rise above poverty, unlock their potential, and contribute meaningfully to the economy," he said.
The launch event drew participants from government agencies, civil society organizations, local business leaders, and the media. Beneficiaries expressed optimism about the opportunities the training offers and the confidence it instills for a better economic future.
The Ministry of Women Affairs pledged continued collaboration with development partners to expand access to empowerment programs across the state.
