Group to Pay Fines for Indigent Inmates to Help Decongest Custodial Centre

In a remarkable show of compassion and community service, a local humanitarian group, Funtua Facebook Connect, has donated essential supplies to inmates at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Funtua, Katsina State.

The donated items included cassava flakes, bread, seasoning cubes, salt, soap, sachet water, mosquito coils, and medicine. The group also made a promise to offset the fines of selected inmates who are unable to pay, in a move aimed at easing congestion in the facility.

Speaking during the donation ceremony, the Chairman of the group, Comrade Ibrahim Mu’azzam Yusha’u, urged the inmates to embrace educational and vocational training opportunities provided within the centre. He encouraged them to prepare for a positive and productive life after their release.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Superintendent-in-Charge CSC Sada Bello, who represented the Controller of Corrections, Katsina State Command, CC Umar Baba, expressed gratitude to the group for their selfless contribution.

He described the gesture as timely and commendable, noting that it aligns with ongoing national efforts to promote the reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates into society as responsible citizens.

"This kind of support not only uplifts the morale of the inmates but also contributes significantly to the objectives of correctional reforms," he said.

The visit and donation were coordinated with the support of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Katsina State Command, whose spokesperson, ASC Najib Idris Kunduru, confirmed the development and commended the group’s dedication to social justice and inmate welfare.
