President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday received the Vice President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, His Excellency Geraldo Alckmin, at the Aso Villa in Abuja. The meeting, also attended by Nigeria’s Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, marked a significant step towards strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
The leaders discussed strategies to expand cooperation across key sectors including agribusiness, trade, energy, healthcare, innovation, defence, and cultural exchange. President Tinubu described the engagement as a reaffirmation of the enduring ties between Nigeria and Brazil—two diverse democracies united by shared values and a common drive for inclusive, people-centred development.
A highlight of the meeting was the renewed focus on the $1 billion Green Imperative Programme, a flagship agricultural mechanisation partnership involving Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and private sector partners. The programme aims to revolutionise Nigeria’s agricultural value chain through technology transfer, the establishment of service centres nationwide, and comprehensive capacity building.
President Tinubu also expressed Nigeria’s commitment to participating in the upcoming COP30 climate summit in Belém, Brazil, as both nations strengthen cooperation on climate action, energy transition, and environmental resilience.
“This visit marks a clear shift from goodwill to execution,” President Tinubu stated, highlighting new joint ventures in renewable energy, security collaboration, and creative industry development.
Quoting a popular Brazilian expression, he added, “Juntos somos mais fortes”—together we are stronger.
President Tinubu reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to fostering strong South–South partnerships based on mutual respect, shared prosperity, and measurable outcomes for citizens.
