The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has elected Ambassador Moh’d Rimi as its new Katsina State Chairman following the successful conduct of its state congress, held in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

The congress, which took place at the MUNAJ Events Center in Katsina, brought together party stakeholders, national representatives and delegates from across the state’s 361 wards, where new executives were also elected at ward and local government levels.

In his opening address, Lawal Batagarawa emphasised the importance of unity and collective responsibility, urging members to place party interests above individual ambitions to ensure cohesion ahead of future electoral contests.

Also speaking, Mustapha Muhammad Inuwa warned against internal sabotage, alleging that some elements were being sponsored to destabilise the party. He called on members to remain disciplined, loyal and focused on strengthening the party’s structure.

Chairman of the electoral committee, Babangida Talau Malumfashi, said the exercise was largely conducted through consensus arrangements after extensive consultations with stakeholders at various levels. He noted that while a few disagreements emerged, they were resolved through majority decisions.

Malumfashi further disclosed that party positions were equitably shared across the state’s three senatorial zones to ensure inclusiveness and balance.

At the end of the exercise, Ambassador Moh’d Rimi emerged as State Chairman from Katsina Zone, with Mansir Mu’azu elected as Deputy Chairman. Mukhtar Adahama was returned as State Secretary, while Amina Lawal emerged as Women Leader. Halliru Malumfashi was also elected to oversee Strategy and Planning.

Other officials elected include Maharazu Tsiga as Deputy Chairman representing Funtua Zone, and Bala Umar Kusada as Assistant Publicity Secretary from Daura Zone, among others.

Senator Babba Kaita, who supervised the congress, said his role was to ensure a transparent and consensus-driven process in line with directives from the party’s national leadership.

Similarly, Chairman of the Congress Committee, Atiku Abubakar Sale Ruwan Dorowa, affirmed the credibility of the exercise, noting that the outcomes reflected the will of party members. The process also received endorsement from Senator Sadiq Yar’adua and other key stakeholders.

Representing the party’s national leadership, Atiku Abubakar (Barden Maru) commended members for their cooperation, stating that despite initial tensions, the congress concluded peacefully and successfully.

He expressed confidence that the newly elected executives, under the leadership of Ambassador Moh’d Rimi, would reposition the party for greater political relevance and electoral success in Katsina State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The congress ended with a renewed call for unity, loyalty and sustained commitment among members to strengthen the ADC’s grassroots presence and overall performance in future elections.
